Blogs:
The Arizona Rifleman: A good friend of mine from the physics program. Just as geeky as I am, but more proficient with computers. Updates frequently.
A Little Off:
Another friend of mine from the University. A total computer nerd. The blog is brand new, so it remains to be seen just what it’s like!
Mötley Mëdia: A blog maintained by a friend of mine from high school. Updates sporadically.
I Hate Skittles: Another friend of mine from physics. The blog portion of this website is practically defunct, but the movies are entertaining and a new one appears every once in a while.
Wil Wheaton.NET: The blog of writer/actor Wil Wheaton; an excellent writer, awesome guy, and consummate geek. What’s not to like? Oh, yeah, and he was on Star Trek. Awesome.
Webcomics:
NOTE: these are not all of the webcomics I read, just the best.
Cyanide & Happiness: Absolutely twisted humor. Updates every day.
Least I Could Do: I do not know how to describe this comic, nor why I like it, so there you go. Updates every day.
Dr. McNinja: He’s a doctor AND a Ninja! What’s not to love? Updates M/W/F.
PhD Comics: A perfect depiction of academia, possibly my favorite comic. Updates M/W/F
Girl Genius: Steampunk mad science. Enough said. Updates M/W/F.
XKCD: This one’s pretty popular for a good reason. Another geek comic. Updates ?.
New Fnorkin Comics: A comic produced by a good friend of mine from high school. I would describe it as obscure pop-culture references embedded in sheer brilliance. Updates whenever he gets around to it (I have to admit, I am a major factor in getting him to update by being a pest).
Music Links:
The Session: An incredible repository of Irish Trad. music. If you need to find a tune, head here first.
The Mandolin Cafe: A website and forum dedicated entirely to mandolins and the people who play them. A great place to hang out online and an excellent learning resource.
Old Wave Mandolins: Website run by Bill Bussmann, the man who made my mandolin and cured my horrible case of MAS (Mandolin Acquisition Syndrome). These instruments are works of art in and of themselves. If you’re in the market, look him up.
Astronomy Links:
Heavens Above: A great website for satellite tracking and sky maps.
Clear Sky Charts: A site hosting thousands of weather and observability condition charts for locations all around the world. Incredibly useful.
Mac Singularity: Website dedicated to astronomers using macintosh computers. If you are a mac astronomer, you need this website.
SIMBAD: All-purpose astronomical database. It doesn’t have everything, but brighter objects are a pretty good bet. Good for pre-observation preparation.
STScI Digitized Sky Survey: Another great tool for pre-observation preparation, this is a nearly all sky index of images. Also fun to play with to look at various astronomical oddities.
Other Links:
FARK: It’s not news, it’s FARK!
Star Pirates: Greatest browser game I’ve seen in a long time. If you decide to sign up, use this link (my recruitment link).
Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster: RAmen!
Rate Beer: My favorite beer rating/information site. Very useful.
